AOII Facts

Founders:

Jessie Wallace Hughn-She was a teacher in New York and a writer and was known for a crusader of peace and humane conditions.

Helen St.Clair Mullan-This was the only founder to have children and graduated first in her class from New York City Law School.

Stella George Stern Perry-She was the first President of AOII and AOII Historian for life. She eventually owned her own advertising agency.

Elizabeth Haywood Wyman-She was a teacher and one of the first women to be appointed to the Board of Education.

Color: Cardinal

Jewel: Ruby

Crest: AOII does not have a crest. Our founders felts that the beauty and simplicity of our badge possessed enough significance to stand alone. Crests are medieval while we were founded under Greek ideals. Where other women's fraternities display their crest, we display simply a rose.

Magazine: To Dragma, which means sheaf of wheat

Unofficial Symbol: The Panda Bear

Flower: Jacqueminot Rose, a rose with no thorns

Badge: Monogram of Greek letters that are superimposed

Pledge Pin: Sheaf of Wheat. This represents individuals united in the common bond of sisterhood

Headquarters: AOII's International Headquarters are located in Brentwood, TN www.alphaomicronpi.org

Philanthropy: Arthritis (AOII Foundation, Arthritis Foundation)
